Long Island’s North Fork is one of the oldest farming communities in the US, going back to its settlement as an English colony in the 17th century. In this book, Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Steve Wick explores that rich history. Written in 1996, the book includes first-hand accounts from descendants of the first English settlers who still farmed out there. These interviews, combined with Wick’s meticulous historical research, paint a robust picture of a centuries-old way of life and the challenges it faces in modern times.

Registrants can pick up a copy of the book at the Northport Library Reference Desk.
